Design Process & Fee Structure
My design process is very collaborative. Other landscape designers, after meeting with a client once or twice, come up with a full design including bedlines, hardscapes and all plant materials. The client is then asked to buy that full design. There is little room for editing.
I design using AutoCAD on a computer. All of my “drawings” are electronic and can be sent via email as PDFs. My design process reflects the fact that I use this technology. It helps me be flexible and responsive to my client’s feedback.
I begin my design process by meeting with a client and learning as much as I can about their needs and desires for their garden. I document the yard (the “before”) and take measurements. Once I have a base drawing on CAD I work on an initial design, focusing on the general layout of patios, pathways, lawn area, beds, etc. Once I have a satisfactory drawing or two I color them up and send them as PDFs to the client for some feedback. These drawings do not include any plant specifications beyond “tree” or “shrubs” or “perennial bed”.
